The Association of North Indian Geographers


The Association of North Indian Geographer was setup by the Department
of

Geography, D.D.U. Gorakhpur University in 1964, at the initiative and under the President UBBPLOGO1ship of Prof. S. C. Bose, then Professor and Head of the Department of Geography, D.D.U. Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur. Prof. V.K  Shrivastava was the founder secretary and faculty members. Dr. M. Singh, Dr. C. B. Tiwari, Dr. U.P. Shahi, Dr. M. P. Shahi, Dr. S.D. Rai, Dr. K.P. Tripathi and Dr. S. C. Shrivastva were the founder members of this Association. The Association decided to publish a bi-annual Journal and named it Oriental Geographer.

         The constitution of the association was discussed and approved by the meeting of founder members and were published in the first volume of the Journal in 1965. The
association started with the aim to popularize Geography at various level, in the education institutions, academic bodies and Geographic research on various relevant topic. The most important and vital activity of the Association is the publication of the Journal.

          Name of the Journal was changed to Geographical Thought in 1966. After the retirement of Prof. S.C. Bose, Prof. Ujagir Singh took over the charge of the President of the Association. He transformed it to a bi-lingual Journal. Research papers in English as well as in Hindi were given equal importance. The name of the Journal was changed to Uttar Bharat Bhoogol Patrika and it was passed to contribute papers in any language and resume in the other. Later on Prof. J. Singh worked as the President and Prof. V.K. Shrivastava secretary. The Journal became nationwide popular and papers from different parts of the country continued to be published by well known Geographers.

The Association is continuously publishing the Journal since its formation and has celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2014. It is now a nationally recognized body of the Geographers and Journal contains valuable research papers contributed by the Geographer from all over India. Apart from the Journal many books under its banner have also been published from time to time. The Journal has got international recognition obtaining ISSN number – 0042-1618. The Department of Geography, D.D.U. Gorakhpur University is managing all its affairs and Head of the Department is working as Chief Editor and other faculty member are the members of the executive committee.

1968 It became bilingual journal as Uttar Bharat Bhogool Patrika.
